A New Lighting Tool for Dark Souls 3: Bringing Next-Gen Upgrades to a Classic

A newly developed lighting tool is empowering modders to enhance the visuals of Dark Souls 3 significantly.

You may have played Dark Souls 3 numerous times, but has it ever looked this impressive?

Dark Souls 3 Lighting Upgrade

On July 6, FromSoftserve showcased a lighting engine mod for Dark Souls 3 that dramatically enhances the game’s graphics with improved lighting and textures. Built on the DS3LightingEngine, this mod allows extensive customization of light mechanics.

While the mod is still a work in progress, it’s expected to be completed in Q4 of this year, as noted by the modder Ragevitamins in an update.

“I can’t comprehend Dark Souls 3 looking this good with DS3LightingEngine - YouTube”
Translation: “I can’t understand how Dark Souls 3 can appear this stunning with the DS3LightingEngine.”

In the meantime, fans can check out previous mods released by FromSoftserve, such as a detailed overhaul for Dark Souls: Remastered and another visual upgrade for Dark Souls 3, both of which have been downloaded thousands of times on NexusMods.

Stay tuned for what’s sure to be an exciting new mod, as early previews have indicated it significantly improves graphics quality by updating textures and enhancing reflections and shadows. Additionally, adjustments to the game’s level of detail (LOD) system mean textures are loaded at high quality by default, enhancing both performance and aesthetic quality.

Though the demo provides a glimpse of what’s to come, there’s plenty of work still needed, including resolving bugs related to game mechanics and refining lighting integration to match the game’s original style.
