Happy birthday! 馃帀
Capcom is commemorating the first birthday of Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess by removing Denuvo DRM, which has been a frequent source of frustration for many players over the years. According to the latest SteamDB update history and reports from DSOGaming, this move is a welcomed change.
Interestingly, Denuvo’s impact on Kunitsu-Gami鈥檚 performance hasn鈥檛 been criticized by players since its launch last July. However, other earlier Capcom titles have faced backlash for similar reasons. In 2020, Capcom pulled Denuvo from DMC5, discovering it reduced performance by as much as 25%.
Digital Foundry confirmed that Denuvo led to performance issues in Resident Evil Village, although it remained until 2023 before removal. Meanwhile, Monster Hunter Wilds continues to face negative reviews due to performance problems linked to both Denuvo and Capcom鈥檚 proprietary rights management.
Capcom has faced scrutiny from investors regarding its release strategy; during a recent shareholder meeting, questions were raised about the promotional support given to new titles like Exoprimal compared to Kunitsu-Gami, which had received positive demo feedback but seemingly lacked marketing push.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, Capcom will introduce a new in-game talisman that alters the background music to an 8-bit retro style in certain scenarios.
