World of Warcraft has waited, well, arguably too long to have a player housing system. Despite being a universally loved feature in most MMO games, it took WoW a staggering 20 years to introduce the ability for players to have their own homes.
The upside, however, is that the developers can learn from the pitfalls other MMOs have experienced over the years. In a recent blog, details emerged about upcoming player neighborhoods. WoW aims to avoid the various issues associated with poorer housing systems found in games like Final Fantasy 14.
Each neighborhood will host around 50 houses, but as demand rises, new neighborhoods can be automatically created. This means that players searching for a home shouldn’t encounter messages indicating that neighborhoods are full.
Additionally, there will be three types of neighborhoods: public, guild, and charter. Public neighborhoods will allow anyone to place their homes down if there’s room, while guild neighborhoods have homes available exclusively for guild members. Charter neighborhoods are private and limited in size.
Moreover, a quality-of-life improvement means players won’t lose everything if they move or are removed from a guild. Their house will be saved and ready to unpack whenever they decide to purchase a new one.
With these developments, World of Warcraft looks to not just keep pace but even surpass its competitors with quality-of-life features aimed at enhancing gameplay.
