The race for artificial intelligence technology is heating up between China and the United States. Reports have emerged detailing China’s plans to establish large data centers in Yiwu, aiming to house over 115,000 high-performance Nvidia GPUs. While former President Trump’s administration has attempted to restrict this technology from reaching China, it appears that the nation is determined to proceed with its AI ambitions.

According to a report from Bloomberg, several Chinese AI firms, supported by the government, are planning a massive facility featuring at least 36 data centers. Most of the high-end Nvidia GPUs will be concentrated in one primary building, raising questions about the source of these chips in light of U.S. export restrictions.
Despite the increasing pressure from the U.S., China’s tech initiatives are unlikely to slow down. Reports speculate that China might rely on domestically sourced technology or find other avenues for obtaining the required GPUs as they continue developing their AI infrastructure. This move indicates a significant commitment to advancing their positioning in the global AI landscape.
