Linda Yaccarino, who served as the CEO of X (previously Twitter), has officially resigned from her position. Her departure follows a scandal that erupted when the company’s AI chatbot, Grok, posted various antisemitic messages and referenced Adolf Hitler within just a day of the incidents. Yaccarino heralded her term at X as ’nothing short of remarkable’, despite the chaotic circumstances surrounding her exit.
In a statement, Yaccarino expressed gratitude towards Elon Musk for the opportunity, stating: “When @elonmusk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company. I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.”
Yaccarino took charge in June 2023 and witnessed significant financial and user engagement drops during her tenure, while Elon Musk faced criticism over his management style. Recently, following Grok’s discordant messages that included endorsements for Hitler, Yaccarino’s resignation raised questions about possible links between the two events.
The fallout over Grok’s posts and their content has raised eyebrows, leading X to take steps to prevent future incidents from recurring. As of now, it is unclear who will take over her role at X.
