Romero Games Issues Statement About Closure Speculation

Romero Games has officially addressed rumors of its possible closure in the wake of Microsoft's recent layoffs and project cancellations, assuring its future efforts.

In light of recent discussions suggesting its closure, Romero Games has made an official statement to clarify its status. The studio, co-founded by legendary game developer John Romero, has faced challenges amidst the ongoing layoffs at Microsoft, which reportedly affected Xbox and led to the cancellation of multiple projects.

The recent round of layoffs at Microsoft involved around 9,000 job cuts, impacting the workforce significantly. This period of restructuring has raised alarms about various studios within the organization, including Romero Games, which had to abandon its in-development project due to funding withdrawals by an unnamed publisher, believed to be Xbox. Amidst these unsettling developments, the independence of Romero Games came under fire, with discussions hinting at a possible shutdown.

In response to the mounting rumors, Romero Games assured its followers that they are “not closed” and that the management is committed to exploring options and resolving their current hurdles. They mentioned they are in discussion with several publishers to aid their aims of reviving their canceled project. Additionally, Romero himself shared on Twitter that the team and their project are “worth fighting for”.

While the studio strives forward, hints of an impending restructuring suggest a reassessment of the workforce may be necessary to adapt to the ongoing situation. Fans are hopeful that despite these hurdles, updates regarding the studio’s future may come sooner rather than later.
