The creators of the upcoming horror title ILL recently shared insights into their game’s classic inspirations, focusing on its beautifully detailed visuals and other chilling elements during a latest interview.
ILL is the first game from Team Clout, which released its initial teaser back in 2021. The trailer impressed horror game enthusiasts with its strikingly realistic graphics and graphic violence, though several years of silence led many to question its future.
Fortunately, ILL made a substantial return at last month’s Summer Game Fest with an exciting new gameplay trailer. This revealed that Team Clout has collaborated with Mundfish’s Powerhouse label, showcasing ILL’s stunning photorealistic graphics, precise audio design, and gruesome in-game combat mechanics, which many characterized as one of SGF’s highest-quality trailers. The game is rapidly accumulating anticipation, rivaling popular upcoming horror titles like Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem and Konami’s Silent Hill f.
Recently, in an interview shared on the PlayStation Blog, Maxim Verehin and Oleg Vdovenko elaborated on ILL’s design and its inspirations. Verehin cited classic first-person shooter and horror games like Half-Life 2, alongside franchises such as Silent Hill and Resident Evil, as vital influences. He remarked that these titles created an immersive world that felt alive and perilous, ensuring that horror elements were not merely visual but systemic. Although individual films and directors weren’t explicitly mentioned, Vdovenko acknowledged that horror film genres from the 1970s to the 90s substantially inspired the grotesque designs of ILL’s monstrous foes.
The developers articulated that ILL maintains a unique approach by combining hyperrealistic physical horror within a dynamic, responsive environment. “Enemies don’t merely perish – they endure, adapt, and transform. Your decisions leave lasting effects, prompting a response from the game world,” Verehin explained. This intricate level of detail in character animations and violence has already captivated horror enthusiasts since its initial reveal in 2021. Furthermore, gameplay will feature standard survival horror elements like inventory management and environmental puzzles.
Despite its vibrant presence at the recent Summer Game Fest with new trailers, Team Clout has yet to announce a release date for ILL. However, the increasing interest around the game suggests its development is well on track, hinting a possible date disclosure may happen soon at events like Gamescom next month or The Game Awards in December. The game is confirmed to release on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC platforms, leaving fans eager for news on when they can dive in.
