The development team for Marvel Rivals from NetEase Games revealed that they have yet to receive the necessary development kit for the Nintendo Switch 2, which is the primary reason the acclaimed team shooter isn’t available on the latest console. The developer’s desire to port Marvel Rivals to the Switch 2 remains strong, yet they require the compatible hardware to proceed.
This announcement corresponds with the preparation for the game’s third season, titled The Abyss Awakens, launching on July 11. This update includes new features, such as Jean Grey from X-Men being introduced as a new hero. In addition to Jean Grey’s Phoenix powers, the season will also introduce a Domination map set on the Symbiotes’ planet, Klyntar, as well as new Team-Ups available for heroes like Jean Grey and Wolverine, enhancing gameplay.
Despite strong demand for a Switch 2 version of Marvel Rivals, fans will have to wait as NetEase still works on acquiring the development kit. Game Director Guangyun Chen confirmed they are still trying to obtain the kit, limiting their ability to adapt the game for the new console. This mirrors the issues faced by numerous developers who also find themselves without access to the Switch 2’s development resources.
Furthermore, Porting Marvel Rivals to the original Switch was previously indicated as unfeasible. Producer Weicong Wu stated that the first system’s specifications could not offer a satisfactory gaming experience on Unreal Engine 5. However, the improved graphics capabilities of the Switch 2—supporting technologies like Nvidia DLSS upscaling and enabling Joy-Con 2 controllers in mouse mode—may aid in a potential later port of Marvel Rivals.
For now, fans eager to experience the latest season of Marvel Rivals are invited to play on other platforms like Steam and PS5. It remains uncertain when or if NetEase will secure the necessary development kit to proceed with a Switch 2 adaptation.
