Former Turn 10 Developer Confirms Closure of Forza Motorsport

Amid Microsoft's layoffs, a former developer reveals that the Forza Motorsport series has been discontinued, leaving fans disheartened.

A former Turn 10 Studios employee has announced that Forza Motorsport and its team have ceased operations. While there is no official statement from the studio yet, insider information points to a series of troubling updates and leaks within the gaming sector, coinciding with Microsoft’s recent layoffs.

If true, this news is disheartening for fans of Forza Motorsport, although the broader Forza series may continue.

Numerous Microsoft-owned studios have begun to report cutbacks and project cancellations amidst widespread layoffs. Although Turn 10 has not made any formal announcements regarding its restructuring, the Forza Motorsport team was reportedly preparing for layoffs. This unexpected situation has unfortunately led to the cancellation of their flagship series, leaving the future of the studio uncertain.

Fred Russell, a former Turn 10 employee, shared the information through a Facebook post on Resetera, claiming that the company has halted any ongoing work on Forza Motorsport and disbanded the team involved. While specifics are scarce, Russell’s background indicates he likely has connections within the team that provide insight into the current situation.

Furthermore, despite Forza Motorsport recently celebrating its 20th anniversary, its decline makes sense given the rising popularity of Forza Horizon and ongoing layoffs at Microsoft. There’s speculation that Turn 10 could pivot towards supporting the Forza Horizon series, which has proven lucrative for Microsoft, especially after Forza Horizon 5 reportedly generated over $100 million following its PlayStation 5 release.

This news is part of a larger trend affecting iconic Microsoft franchises, with claims that Halo Studios has also lost staff due to recent cost-cutting measures. As the dust settles, more announcements regarding other studios may surface in the coming days.
