Electronic Arts recently announced the sunsetting of Anthem, confirming that the game servers will cease to operate on January 12, 2026. After careful deliberation, EA stated that the game will remain functional online for the next 180 days. Players will still be able to use any remaining in-game currency until the servers are taken offline, but all purchases of premium currency have now been disabled.
“We deeply appreciate your dedication, passion and support over the years and we’d like to thank you for that.”
As of now, Anthem remains active, allowing players to jump in at their leisure. However, it will no longer be available through EA Play starting on August 15, 2025. While the FAQ regarding the shutdown reiterates what was in the official announcement, it reveals that no layoffs have been tied to this decision. Furthermore, Anthem was designed purely as an online experience, meaning the game will be unplayable once the servers shut down.
Despite past controversies surrounding Anthem’s development, including ‘bizarre’ decisions by EA, there are still fans hoping for a potential revival after its initial missteps. Many believe that with additional support, the game could have evolved into something more successful. However, its fate appears sealed as players prepare for the shutdown.
