Developer Rob Smith has shared a brilliantly fun project on YouTube, showcasing a game called DiskFight, which cleverly combines classic whack-a-mole gameplay with floppy disks functioning as the main challenge—a nostalgic nod for many gamers.
Note: Please don’t use a mallet on the floppy disks, though.
The creation features an Amiga-based system designed to slot floppy disks in at high speed for points, utilizing customized actuators to launch the disks.
The game spans 30 seconds, filled with energetic beats generated by musician Hoffman, who employs retro devices for his music.
The music, named Disk Menace, cleverly corresponds with the game’s increasing pace, mirroring players’ intensity as the timer winds down.
Smith’s process is documented in two videos, with the setup shown in a sped-up format accompanied by lively music. Despite its unique twist, the game reminds us not to hit any items too hard, as it’s intended for fun and not destruction.
