Developer Clarifies Controversy Over Censorship in Ready or Not

VOID Interactive addresses backlash from players regarding the upcoming console release of Ready or Not, which has raised concerns over content censorship.

Developer VOID Interactive has responded to the wave of negative reviews Ready or Not has received following its announcement that the console version would include censored content. The game is set to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on July 15, and players have expressed their dissatisfaction with some changes that VOID announced, leading to clarifications from the developer.

Ready or Not is a tactical first-person shooter where players assume the role of a SWAT team commander, executing high-stakes operations like hostage rescues and bomb threats. Initially launched in early access in December 2021, it garnered positive reviews on Steam upon its full release in December 2023. In April 2025, VOID revealed the release date for the console version but also disclosed that these editions would have modifications, including decreased nudity and certain violent themes, which would also apply to the PC version. This news prompted players to review-bomb the game.

Now, VOID has issued a new statement concerning the changes to the game. They clarified misconceptions regarding the modifications, stressing that the essence of the game’s tone and intensity remains intact. VOID provided before-and-after visuals to justify their changes, assuring that the shocking effects of violence—in which players expressed concerns about being toned down—have not been minimized.

Visual Comparisons of Ready or Not

Importantly, VOID noted that several game missions, like Elephant and Valley of the Dolls, remain unchanged. They listed alterations made to specific missions in the PC version, alongside the disabling of post-mortem dismemberment for living characters only. VOID reiterated its commitment to creating immersive experiences while adapting to global legal regulations, asserting they implement adjustments only when necessary, without compromising on creative vision.

Whether these reassurances will be sufficient to alleviate player concerns remains to be seen.
