EA Set to Permanently Close Anthem's Servers on January 12, 2026

Electronic Arts has officially announced the shutdown of Anthem's servers, effective January 12, 2026, marking the end of its online gameplay.

EA has announced the closure of Anthem’s servers on January 12, 2026. First released in 2019, Anthem represented a shift for BioWare, known for its narrative-driven RPGs. Instead, this title focused on being an action-oriented, online-only cooperative shooter.

Although BioWare attempted to rejuvenate the game, it ultimately fell short, leading to diminished player interest. By 2021, support had ceased and no further substantial updates were anticipated. This imminent shutdown means the game will become entirely unplayable.

On the one hand, BioWare has been experiencing a series of downturns in recent years, following underwhelming launches such as Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem itself. All eyes are now on the upcoming Mass Effect title, in hopes for a revival in their fortunes.
