AMD’s senior vice president, Jack Huynh, along with Mark Cerny, who heads the PS5 system architecture, have revisited their cooperative efforts through Project Amethyst. This collaboration, named after a violet stone that the two tech experts posed next to, started in 2023 and aims to create “smarter, more efficient solutions” benefiting both AMD and Sony, like Super Resolution featured in FSR 4.
On their recent discussions, Huynh outlined that this partnership is focused on paving the way for machine-learning technologies in Frame Generation and Ray Regeneration within FSR Redstone.
To reiterate, the advanced capabilities of AMD’s FSR 4, circulating information since its announcement in February, imply significant upgrades for basic PS5 users possibly looking toward the Pro model when it releases its FSR 4 in 2026.
