Nvidia's Future: Support Ending for Older GTX Graphics Cards

Nvidia plans to end full driver support for certain GTX series graphics cards, impacting many users by the end of 2025.

Nvidia has announced that full driver support for most GeForce GTX graphics cards will likely end later this year. An update to Nvidia’s Unix graphics feature deprecation schedule has indicated that the upcoming Unix 580 series drivers will be the last to fully support Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta architectures. This concerns users of GTX 10, 9, and 7 series cards, which may lead to questions regarding future gaming on Windows for these models.

What’s Happening?

  • Maxwell includes GTX 7 and 9 Series cards.
  • Pascal architecture is used in GTX 10 Series cards.

Though optimized drivers won’t be available, updates for major security flaws will continue, albeit without the latest gaming optimizations. Nvidia indicates the next major Windows driver release will determine the specific fate of driver support for the older GPUs, which began over nine years ago.
