Hideo Kojima Critiques AI's Influence on Human Choices
In a recent interview, Hideo Kojima expresses concern over the dangers of being overly connected and how AI might steer our decisions, advocating for the importance of spontaneity in life.
In a wide-ranging interview with the Japanese outlet Denfaminicogamer, Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima shared insightful thoughts on the growing influence of technology and AI in our lives. Kojima reflected on the pandemic-induced lifestyle changes, expressing worry that being excessively connected might lead us to a scripted existence.
“Rather than being ’too connected’, I think it’s dangerous to make decisions because you’re being guided. I’m not denying technology but, for example, AI on my smartphone introduces me to all kinds of things. I don’t like that either.”

“I believe coincidences are vital in human life. The way we encounter opportunities randomly defines our lives.”]
He emphasized the necessity of serendipity, noting that unexpected encounters and experiences enrich our lives. His remarks also alluded to how over-reliance on technology could constrain our decision-making.
Kojima continued, suggesting that technology should be a tool rather than a guide. He stated, “As long as humans have a physical body, I think they move as individuals… You can visit beautiful places in the metaverse, but it’s not the same as the real experience. The journey adds color to our lives.”
In conclusion, Kojima urged us to ponder how technology can coexist with genuine human experiences without overtaking them.
