New Horror Game Featuring Actors from Baldur's Gate 3 and Clair Obscur Announced

Surgent Studios reveals 'Dead Take', a horror game with notable voice actors Neil Newbon and Ben Starr in lead roles.

Surgent Studios has unveiled a new horror title named Dead Take, featuring Neil Newbon, known for his work in Baldur’s Gate 3, and Ben Starr from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. This game acts as Surgent Studios’ second project, following their Metroidvania release, Tales of Kenzera: Zau.

Neil Newbon and Ben Starr have gained popularity within the voice acting community due to their impactful roles across various acclaimed titles. Newbon is recognized for his performances in Detroit: Become Human as Elijah Kamski, as well as portraying Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3. Meanwhile, Starr is noted for his role as Clive Rosfield in Final Fantasy 16 and Verso in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

In Dead Take, players will step into the shoes of characters Chase Lowry and Vinnie Monroe, depicted by Newbon and Starr, respectively. The narrative explores a psychological horror story set in the Hollywood Hills, showcasing an actor’s desperate quest to find his missing friend amid the industry’s dark underbelly. The gameplay will incorporate escape-room-style puzzles intertwined with live-action footage that reveals hidden truths about the entertainment world.

Creative Director Abubakar Salim mentioned that the game is inspired by shared horror experiences between him and the lead voice actors: “Some of the horror stories we discussed formed the backbone of this game.”

For additional details, including a trailer featuring gameplay scenes, fans eagerly await the release of Dead Take on Steam in 2025.
