'Censorship Crosses the Line': Ready or Not Faces Backlash After Developers Tone Down Violence for Console

Recent updates to Ready or Not have sparked outrage among players, as the developers modify violence and gore to meet stricter console requirements.

Ready or Not, the tactical SWAT simulator, has faced significant backlash from players following the developers’ decision to tone down violence and gore to comply with stricter console standards.

In a recent blog post from the developers, it was mentioned that while player-induced dismemberment remains present, its occurrence has been somewhat limited. The post states, “Most people here wouldn’t notice if we didn’t say anything,” implying that changes were minimal.

Changes include restrictions on post-mortem dismemberment, and certain character artworks depicting torture have also seen adjustments.

The announcement has triggered a wave of review bombing on platforms such as Steam, causing the game’s rating to drop from ‘Very Positive’ to ‘Mixed.’

The developers have mentioned that these adjustments were necessary to meet console release criteria and have assured that the essence of the game remains intact. However, many players argue that such changes undermine the core aspects of Ready or Not.

As a result of these modifications, a number of players have expressed disappointment, indicating that such censorship has diminished their enjoyment of the gameplay experience. “The censorship is a step too far,” remarked one user, highlighting the growing discontent among the gaming community.
