After more than 20 years, Playground Productions and Mega Cat Studios have revealed that Humongous Entertainment’s Backyard Baseball 2001 is returning to modern platforms as a remastered version titled Backyard Baseball ‘01. This remaster will be available for both PC and mobile devices, retaining the beloved features and officially licensed MLB players that fans cherished in its predecessors.
Though the MLB The Show series dominates the MLB gaming landscape, Backyard Baseball holds a special place in the hearts of many PC gamers, pre-dating the launch of MLB The Show by several years. The game lets players assemble a dream team of MLB athletes, with iconic figures ‘Backyardified’ as young players eager to make a name. In celebration of its 25th anniversary, Backyard Baseball ‘01 is set to launch on July 8.
Additional highlights include classic gameplay elements such as 30 Backyard kids, 28 legendary MLB players, various power-ups for batting and pitching, and the return of commentary from Sunny Day and Vinnie. Even though the game won’t run on macOS, it will be fully compatible with Windows and will feature bonus elements yet to be announced.
