Sony has suddenly raised the prices of certain PS4 and PS5 games in Brazil and Turkey. Previously, in April, the company raised PlayStation Plus subscription costs in Brazil and various Latin American nations, which sparked significant backlash. Despite the criticism, Sony has proceeded with another price increase in a different area.
The subject of video game pricing has gained traction recently, with worries that gaming is becoming increasingly pricey. Several games are now predicted to launch at $80, and speculation exists that next-generation consoles may push prices even higher. As it stands, most AAA games in predominant markets are priced around $70, while premium editions generally fall between $80 and $90. Yet, it seems Sony is pressuring players in specific territories to spend more.
In Brazil, certain third-party and exclusive AAA games on PS5 and PS4 now sell for approximately 400 Brazilian Real (BRL), translating to about $73 USD. Feedback from Turkish players indicates that PlayStation game prices are becoming “ridiculously” expensive, with first-party AAA titles fetching around 3,500 Turkish Liras, or $88 USD, which represents roughly 14% of the minimum wage in the country. For Brazilian players, these new prices account for about 26% of the minimum wage.
Sony Breaks a Promise by Increasing Game Prices in Brazil
In May 2025, Sony’s Brazilian press team assured that no price increases would occur during the summer. They also specified that only first-party games would see price adjustments ahead of the anticipated launch of Ghost of Yotei in October. However, the price hike came nearly three months earlier than expected and extended to third-party, non-exclusive games as well.

Brazilian and Turkish gamers are expressing their frustration with Sony’s recent pricing strategies. In Brazil, many feel particularly discontent about unforeseen price tags that seem unreasonable, especially for older titles like Demon’s Souls (2020) and Infamous Second Son (2014). One game that has been substantially affected by the price increase in Brazil is The Outer Worlds 2, with a pre-order cost of 456 BRL (approximately $83), making it one of the priciest standard editions in the region.
According to Sony’s official statement, the PlayStation Store pricing adjustment is due to challenging market conditions, including changing currency exchange rates. Consequently, prices for games and add-on content have surged in Brazil, and these pricing decisions vary by region, reflecting the current economic landscape.
