Square Enix Acknowledges Decline in Final Fantasy 14's Quality
Square Enix's president admits that Final Fantasy 14 is experiencing a decrease in quality and losing fans since the launch of the Dawntrail expansion.
Final Fantasy 14 has long been regarded as the financial backbone of Square Enix, yet the recent expansion, Dawntrail, raises concerns about its future. As player subscriptions dwindle, critical voices within the community have begun to emerge, highlighting a perceived decline in both game quality and user satisfaction.
In a recent shareholders’ meeting, President Takashi Kiryu addressed these issues openly. Responding to inquiries regarding the game’s struggles, he acknowledged the problems while asserting that the development team remains committed to enhancing player experience in the upcoming expansion.
“We are aware of it. The development team is doing its utmost to ensure that people continue to enjoy the game after 8.0 [the next expansion].”
Kiryu’s candor reflects broader feelings among the fanbase who have noted the heavy responsibilities on lead producer Naoki Yoshida, which some argue compromise the quality of Final Fantasy 14. As pressure mounts and expectations rise, it’s clear that both Square Enix and its audience are at a challenging juncture.
