The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced a new phase of refunds totaling $126 million for Fortnite players who were inadvertently charged for items within the game. This initiative allows players who missed the initial claims filing opportunity another chance to reclaim their funds.
This refund initiative originates from a 2022 agreement between the FTC and Epic Games, with Epic agreeing to a $520 million settlement concerning violations of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and deceptive practices that misled players into making unwanted purchases.
The first batch of refunds was distributed in December 2024, amounting to $72 million over more than 629,000 claims. This new round surpasses the previous one, with over 969,000 payments being processed this June. These reimbursements will be issued via checks or PayPal rather than in-game currency.
Eligible consumers who have not yet submitted a claim will now have until July 9, 2025, to submit one.
To apply for the refund, visit FTC’s Fortnite page. Only US citizens aged 18 and above are eligible, but minors can have a parent or guardian assist in the application process.
