In Season 17 of Overwatch 2, significant shifts are underway as the developers aim to enhance player experience through greater customization options and the introduction of new heroes in the Stadium.
“It’s all about giving you more customisation, freedom, and tools to elevate your game across all of Overwatch 2,” remarked Dylan Snyder, a senior game designer, during a dev update. Season 17 will feature a new map, Morocco, alongside updates to existing maps like Junk City and Suravasa.
The standout feature this season is the addition of map voting, allowing players to select their preferred maps to play from three options, thus offering more control over gaming sessions.
Moreover, the new heroes include Sigma, Junkrat, and Zenyatta, all set to bring diverse gameplay styles. Connor Kou, a senior systems designer, highlighted the importance of these additions:
“Sigma, Junkrat, and Zenyatta are all entering the field bringing fresh energy and strategies.”
In terms of abilities, Junkrat has some thrilling new powers: Big Bang significantly increases the size of his projectiles, Slapnel explodes melee hits to knock targets back, while Rainin’ Lead allows a bomb deployment after using a concussion mine.
Zenyatta and Sigma will also debut with powers that promise to add strategic depth to team compositions. Furthermore, Stadium will incorporate a pre-build section, enabling players to save and share their custom builds, effectively enhancing user experience and interaction.
Be prepared for a dynamic gameplay experience in Overwatch 2’s Season 17, with these changes promising to make the game more engaging than ever.
