Frontier Developments Addresses Controversy Over AI-Generated Scientist Portraits in Jurassic World Evolution 3

Frontier Developments clarifies its stance on generative AI usage, responding to community feedback regarding scientist portraits in Jurassic World Evolution 3.

Following backlash from the community, Frontier Developments announced that generative AI will not be utilized in creating scientist portraits for Jurassic World Evolution 3. As discussions on AI in video games continue, many fans have welcomed this shift from the developers.

As the upcoming installment in the dinosaur management simulation series developed by Frontier, Jurassic World Evolution 3 promises to include enhanced features for players. Showcased at Summer Game Fest 2025, the game will introduce family-raising mechanics for dinosaurs and offer significant improvements in creation tools to design ideal exhibits. However, the revelation that generative AI was previously involved in generating scientist portraits triggered controversy among gamers.

Frontier has acknowledged the community’s concerns regarding this issue. In response to a widely shared Steam forum post that criticized AI use, the developer has decided to abandon this approach. Their statement noted: “We have chosen to eliminate the application of generative AI for the scientist portraits in Jurassic World Evolution 3.” This choice was reaffirmed in a more recent statement to Game Watcher.

The decision to scrap AI-generated portraits has been largely praised by the community. Many fans expressed their gratitude on Steam for the development team’s willingness to adapt based on feedback. The role of scientists is anticipated to be crucial in running parks within Jurassic World Evolution 3, increasing the significance of this change. As players await updates on what will replace the AI-generated portraits, they also have only a few months left until the game’s release on October 21. The developer has also indicated that there will be both Standard and Deluxe Editions of Jurassic World Evolution 3, the latter featuring enhanced offerings such as additional family units and scenery items.

This adjustment from Frontier Developments is hoped to enhance the gaming experience. Different companies have recently discussed the implications that AI might have in game development, though it remains uncertain how significant AI’s influence will be in the forthcoming future.
