OpenAI's Sam Altman Shares Insights on ChatGPT Ads: 'I Don't Mind It... It's Pretty Cool'

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has expressed his openness to advertising in ChatGPT, echoing a sentiment of trust despite the platform's inherent hallucination issues. He reflects on the nature of ads and their potential role in AI.

In a recent podcast, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, shared his thoughts on possible ads in ChatGPT: “I don’t mind it… I think ads on Instagram are kinda cool, I bought a bunch of stuff from them.”

However, he also acknowledged the challenges posed by ensuring trust while integrating ads, given that the AI has a tendency to produce unreliable ‘hallucinations’. Altman emphasized the significance of maintaining users’ trust, stating, “People have a very high degree of trust in ChatGPT, which is interesting because AI hallucinates.”

He pointed out that while many users trust the technology, the unpredictability associated with its responses raises questions about how brands might feel about advertising on such a platform.

Altman concluded that although OpenAI hasn’t rolled out any advertising product yet, the day may come soon when ads could subtly appear within ChatGPT’s interactions.
