Mario Kart 64 Now Available on PC Thanks to Independent Modders

The Harbour Masters have successfully ported Mario Kart 64 to PC, allowing players to enjoy the classic game natively without emulators.

The Harbour Masters have made history again by successfully bringing Mario Kart 64 to PC without the need for emulators. This project, dubbed Spaghetti Kart, allows players to run the game directly on their desktops, provided they supply a legally obtained ROM.

“They said it couldn’t happen. They said it was impossible. They said Nintendo would never put one of its games on PC. And they were right; Nintendo has not.”

However, as fans, the Harbour Masters did not let that stop them. Following their previous successes in modding classic games, they used their skills to reverse-engineer Mario Kart 64, much like they did for Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask. This means that anyone with a genuine ROM can experience the beloved racer as never before, even if it’s still a work in progress with occasional glitches.

For those curious about exploring this new version of the game, the project is available on GitHub. It’s encouraged to follow the installation instructions carefully to ensure a smooth experience.
