Obsidian is set to change its approach for early access updates for Grounded 2, scheduled for release next month. Instead of the monthly micro-updates that characterized the initial phase of the first Grounded game, the studio plans to implement substantial updates approximately every four to five months.
In a discussion with GamesRadar, Chris Parker, the game director, shared the reasoning behind this shift. He remarked:
“When we started with Grounded 1 in early access, we were trying for almost monthly updates. That turned out to be unmanageable and caused dissatisfaction for both the community and our team. We’re aiming for more substantial updates that will come out in the four to five month range.”
Parker emphasized the intention to enhance the storytelling aspect of Grounded 2, highlighting that while they wish to maintain the engaging survival elements of the first game, they also aspire to integrate a compelling narrative. With Obsidian’s renowned strength in crafting story-driven RPGs, this shouldn’t pose a challenge.
