Denmark Transitions to Linux for Digital Sovereignty
The Danish government is moving from Windows to Linux, citing the need for digital independence.
Denmark’s Ministry of Digital Affairs has announced a significant transition to Linux, moving away from Windows and Office 365 in favor of Linux and LibreOffice, indicating a commitment towards greater digital sovereignty. This decision aims to reduce dependency on a limited number of foreign suppliers, enhancing the country’s digital infrastructure resilience.
Denmark, a notable player in European economics, consisting of about 6 million residents, is acknowledged for its high purchasing power and economic output. The Danish government plans to migrate approximately half of the Ministry of Digital Affairs to Linux this summer as part of this initiative. This change emphasizes the importance of maintaining the ability to act independently in the digital space.
