Magic: The Gathering Announces Return of Iconic Cards in Edge of Eternities
The upcoming 'Edge of Eternities' expansion will reintroduce powerful Lands, including shock lands from previous sets, to the game.
Magic: The Gathering’s upcoming “Edge of Eternities” expansion is set to bring back some of the game’s most powerful Lands, particularly the reprinted shock lands in the Standard format. This release follows a trend of introducing beloved cards back into the mix, aiming to both enhance gameplay variety and make these cards more affordable for players.
Lands are crucial in Magic, serving as the main source of mana for various decks. They can vary from basic types that provide single mana to more complex multicolor versions that allow access to different mana types. Among those making a return are the fan-favorite “Dual Lands” which significantly benefit deck strategies.
During MagicCon Las Vegas 2025, Wizards of the Coast revealed the details surrounding this exciting update, showcasing newly illustrated cards like “Breeding Pool” and “Godless Shrine.” The inclusion of these shock lands will not only enhance gameplay but also mark the first time many of these cards have been playable in the Standard format since their last appearance in 2018’s “Guilds of Ravnica.”
With these updates, Magic: The Gathering looks forward to revitalizing its competitive scene as “Edge of Eternities” approaches its release on August 1, 2025.
