Priest Dismissed as Entire Staff Resigns Following Controversial Gesture

A priest was defrocked after imitating a controversial salute in a speech, prompting the resignation of his website's entire editorial team.

Calvin Robinson, known for being a far-right political commentator and former games journalist, faced revocation of his priest status on January 25, 2025, due to actions deemed inappropriate by the Anglican Catholic Church. Following this incident, the entire editorial team of his website, God is a Geek, announced their resignation on January 26.

Robinson’s downfall escalated after he imitated the infamous Nazi salute during an anti-abortion speech, evoking references to similar gestures made by Elon Musk on Inauguration Day. His gesture was intended to mock critics who labeled Musk a Nazi, but the church condemned it, stating, “A gesture that many have interpreted as a pro-Nazi salute.”

Initial responses to his actions led the church to revoke his license for failing to adhere to the expected conduct of a priest. Robinson defended his actions through social media, maintaining that his intention was misunderstood and calling out the hypocrisy of his critics.

The previous staff of God is a Geek, who had operated independently from Robinson for years, emphasized that they do not endorse his politics or actions and expressed their commitment to create content that is fair and inclusive under a new brand.

The resignation of the editorial staff marks a significant shift for the website and reflects the complications of political provocations intertwining with personal and professional identities.
