Kojima Productions and Line Mileage have announced a new Death Stranding animated film is in production. Rather than adapting the original game, it will offer an original narrative inspired by the franchise’s themes. Screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski, known for HBO Max’s Raised By Wolves, is excited about this venture, stating:
“I love the world of Death Stranding, it’s so creatively freeing, so beautifully dark and yet hopeful… to birth new stories into this fertile, mind-bending universe.”
Daniel Dominguez, CCO of Line Mileage, expressed admiration for Death Stranding as the most cinematic and impactful video game he has experienced:
“Playing it gave me the same emotional rush, visceral punch, and intellectual pleasure I had the first time I watched Blade Runner, or Ghost in the Shell.”
This movie aims to capture an adult audience, and it’s clear that both Kojima and Guzikowski are keen to explore the expressive potential of cinematic storytelling through this new animated format.
