Dune: Awakening AMA Reveals Planned Changes to PvP Mechanics

Funcom discusses future updates for PvP in Dune: Awakening, focusing on improving gameplay and combat mechanics.

Funcom is currently working on refining PvP elements in Dune: Awakening. During a recent AMA, the developers expressed their commitment to enhancing player experiences while engaging in combat.

Goals for PvP Combat

The team revealed three main objectives:

  • Player Decision Making: Ensuring players make significant decisions regarding their gear and vehicle setups.
  • Reliable and Intuitive Combat: After PvP interactions begin, players should find the system intuitive and responsive, impacting their combat choices.
  • Movement Improvements: Enhancing gameplay experiences by addressing desynchronization and improving ability activation reliability.

While changes are planned, Bylos indicated that limiting zones in the deep desert to ground combat is not under consideration. Recent adjustments to ornithopter mechanics allow for more engaging air-to-ground combat instead of the usual missile exchanges. “In most encounters, players find themselves battling mid-air rather than engaging on the ground,” Bylos explained.

Although specific details on upcoming changes are scarce, Funcom is actively monitoring player feedback to refine the game further. Additionally, an anticipated patch containing quality-of-life upgrades is in the works, targeting a release in early July.

“We are focused on ensuring the gameplay is engaging and true to the essence of the universe we’re creating,” Sommerbakk stated, indicating an interest in player desires for deeper immersion.
