Five years after its problematic release, Empire of Sin has made a surprising comeback with a new expansion titled Hunt for Aurora, which adds a new boss, gangster class, racket, and 14 fresh missions.
We had high expectations for Empire of Sin, developed by Romero Games. However, the initial experience fell short. Fraser Brown of PC Gamer noted, “There’s definitely a version of it in there somewhere that’s good, but they all come with massive caveats that dwarf what it does well.” This sentiment echoed the game’s fate on the list of the worst launches of 2020.
Some fans had almost given up hope after the Precinct Patch in 2021, which was supposed to be a turning point. Despite the absence of the promised second expansion and a quiet social media presence since then, Empire of Sin was not completely dormant.
Now, with Hunt for Aurora, new characters Robin Kray and Sylvia Taylor venture to Chicago to locate the famed Aurora diamond. This expansion includes:
- The new Vanguard gangster class, specializing in melee and frontline combat.
- The Dance Club racket for expanding your criminal empire.
- Various new weapons and a loyal canine companion with an uncanny affection for luck.
- Four new mission chains comprising 14 missions dedicated to the hunt for the elusive Aurora Diamond.
The quality of the expansion remains untested, and it remains to be seen how fans will respond to this unexpected addition. After years of anticipation, these updates bring fresh opportunities for those still invested in the game.
