High Specs for Borderlands 4 Leave Many Gamers in the Cold

Borderlands 4's minimum PC requirements demand an 8-core CPU, potentially alienating a significant portion of players who currently meet less intensive specifications.

Running Borderlands 4 on PC necessitates an 8-core processor alongside a graphics card equipped with 8 to 12 GB of VRAM, as stipulated by the game’s system requirements. Notably, fewer than half of Steam users own an 8-core CPU, indicating that many gamers may find themselves excluded unless they invest in upgrades.

This installment in Gearbox’s renowned looter-shooter series will transport players to a fresh planet, Kairos, overseen by the oppressive Timekeeper. Like previous iterations, Borderlands 4 will support both solo missions and online co-op gameplay, specifically designed for up to four players.

With an increased focus on RPG mechanics, enhancements such as changes to the Skill Tree system will permit players to fully invest points into particular traits or abilities for their Vault Hunters. While set to launch across various platforms on September 12, the Switch 2 version will be delayed until a later date.

In summary, the considerable specifications required for Borderlands 4, owing to its adoption of Unreal Engine 5 and advanced features like ray tracing, raise concerns about accessibility for many gamers. The game requires a minimum of 32GB of RAM and 100GB of spare SSD storage. In comparison, its predecessor, Borderlands 3, demanded a more accessible configuration including less powerful hardware.
