Dark and Darker to be Removed from Epic Games Store This November

Epic Games has announced that it will be removing the dungeon crawler Dark and Darker from Epic Store libraries on November 1, following legal issues.

Ironmace’s dungeon crawler, Dark and Darker, is set to vanish from Epic Store libraries on November 1. An email sent to owners confirms this removal, highlighting ongoing legal issues surrounding the game.

Epic had previously pulled Dark and Darker from sale on March 5 due to a court ruling in Korea involving Nexon, the game’s publisher, Ironmace. While refunds will be issued for those who purchased the ‘Legendary Status’ upgrade, buyers of the Redstone Shards premium currency will not receive refunds.

The court’s ruling found that while Ironmace did not commit copyright infringement against Nexon, it did violate Nexon’s trade secrets. Nexon accused Ironmace of using assets and code ‘stolen’ from a similar canceled project known as P3. As a consequence, Ironmace now owes nearly $6 million in damages.

For now, Dark and Darker is still available on Steam with the same upgrade options as those previously offered on the Epic Store. There are concerns among Steam players that the game might also be removed from their libraries, yet it remains available for purchase at this time. Epic has yet to provide further details on the ongoing legal situation.
