Dune: Awakening has launched with a lot of enthusiasm, receiving great feedback on Steam and gathering a solid player base, facing few launch issues typical of new multiplayer games.
However, players are voicing concerns about the game’s endgame PvP setting, particularly the deep desert, where competitive gameplay occurs in a vast region only accessible via air, focusing on resources like spice and titanium.
Player criticisms highlight the imbalance in aerial combat where many engagements happen in ornithopters, making the skills developed for ground combat less useful.
One major complaint includes a PvP strategy termed “goomba stomping,” where airborne players cause damage by crashing into those on the ground without taking crash damage.
Additionally, rapid respawn rates have been noted as a significant issue, allowing defeated players to quickly return to battles, diminishing the satisfaction and strategy inherent in PvP encounters. Anna Koselke from GamesRadar quoted players expressing their frustrations on Reddit, pointing out that the fast respawn undermines the effectiveness of victory in battles.
Funcom’s Creative Director Joel Bylos has responded to these concerns by acknowledging player feedback and promising changes to the PvP system, urging players to be patient as they work on improvements.
