HBO’s initial series, Game of Thrones, lacked sufficient dragon scenes, which is a concern that the upcoming RTS, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, aims to address.
“The dragons have been a big focus for us,” stated game director Ryan McMahon during a Summer Game Fest interview. “We’ve actually got a bit of an R&D team specifically for dragons. People, as well as projects, that are dedicated to just making the dragons.”
The PlaySide team engages in thorough debates on the lore related to dragons, often questioning what happens when these mythical creatures perish. Michael McAlister, the global head of marketing and communications at PlaySide, shared insights on how these discussions influence game development.
He mentioned, “The dragons are like bombs; the implication is that when a dragon crashes into the ground, it explodes like a nuclear bomb. The back and forth about what actually happens when a dragon isn’t alive is fascinating.”
This focus on the mechanics surrounding dragons promises to add a unique layer to gameplay, as players strategize around potential dragon casualties and their explosive aftermath in battle.
