Positive Progress Report on the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake

Ubisoft shares updates on the development of the remake of their classic title, hinting at a 2026 release.

The remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is making solid progress, as indicated by a recent development update from Ubisoft. Originally announced in 2020 with a planned release in 2021, the project faced delays as development moved from Ubisoft Mumbai and Pune to Ubisoft Montreal, leading to a reset in development.

During the June 2024 Forward showcase, Ubisoft shared a brief 30-second CG teaser, confirming a projected release window in 2026.

After years of inactivity during the previous console generation, the Prince of Persia franchise is experiencing a revival. Last year, Ubisoft launched a 2D Metroidvania titled Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which received acclaim for its engaging level design and smooth gameplay. Additionally, a new roguelike titled The Rogue Prince of Persia, developed by Evil Empire, entered early access on PC last year.

Although fans are excited about the upcoming Sands of Time remake, concerns linger about its development timeline and the lack of consistent updates, particularly as similar projects, like Beyond Good and Evil 2 and the Splinter Cell remake, have faced issues.

Ubisoft’s recent communications have assured fans that the remake’s development is on track, maintaining a release window for early 2026. However, there is a chance of further delays, suggesting the game might not be released until the fall of that year.

For updates, fans can stay tuned for potential announcements at future events such as Gamescom or The Game Awards.
