Rumor: Genshin Impact May Replace Paimon's Voice Soon

Recent leaks suggest that Paimon, a character in Genshin Impact, might be getting a new voice actor amid ongoing controversies over the voice acting process.

The Potential Recasting of Paimon in Genshin Impact

Recent rumors indicate that Genshin Impact may replace its iconic character Paimon’s voice, with leaks revealing the potential new voice actor.

Despite being a non-union project, the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike has significantly impacted Genshin Impact, with many voice actors participating in work refusals to secure AI protections or union participation. Initially, the community supported this movement, but sentiments shifted following the replacement of the character Kinich in Version 5.5.

A central figure in this conflict is Corina Boettger, the original voice behind Paimon for English players, who publicly criticized the new actor Jacob Takanashi, who replaced John Patneaude as Kinich. This created a tense situation, drawing concern from the community regarding Boettger’s remarks towards Takanashi. As the situation escalated, Boettger announced she would step down until HoYoverse adheres to the SAG-AFTRA interim agreement.

This sequence of events raises questions about Paimon’s future voice actor, particularly as a recent leak suggests she may be replaced in Version 5.7. However, leaks should be viewed cautiously as definitive confirmations are still pending.

Player impressions of the new voice suggest a more melodic quality compared to Boettger’s portrayal, generating a positive reception so far.

As Genshin Impact navigates these changes, voice actor Sean Chiplock, who voices Diluc, has stated he will only return if contracts include stronger guarantees against AI exploitation.

With the ongoing uncertainty around voice actor protections, players are left hopeful for a resolution that respects the work and roles of the voice actors.
