It appears that Rockstar may have once envisioned a vastly different narrative for Grand Theft Auto 6 according to a new report. If the game maintains its scheduled release for May 26, 2026, fans of the series will have waited almost 13 years for this anticipated open-world experience.
Initially, GTA 6 was slated for launch in Fall 2025. However, it faced delays, now set for May 26, 2026, pushing back the wait further. Yet this postponement may ultimately result in a more polished product at its debut.
Recent leaking claims indicate that Dan Houser, a key figure at Rockstar, had alternative story concepts that did not make the final cut in favor of what will be released next year. Previously proposed storylines included three playable characters: a corrupt police officer, the officer’s son, and an associate of a Colombian drug lord. Other ideas revolved around a Vice City police officer avenging her mother and a drug smuggler or alternatively, a story involving a police officer and an ex-soldier.
Previous Storylines Should Be Taken With Caution
It’s essential for fans to approach these revelations about earlier GTA 6 narratives with skepticism. Dan Houser departed from Rockstar Games in 2020, with his last significant contributions being to Red Dead Redemption 2 and its online mode. His involvement in multiple story concepts for GTA 6 is possible, but unconfirmed.
Despite the uncertainty regarding earlier versions, one thing is clear about GTA 6: it will feature the characters Lucia and Jason, who will navigate the criminal underbelly of Vice City. Lucia begins her story freshly released from prison while Jason gets involved with drug networks and various risky associates. Speculation surrounds Jason’s role, with some theorizing he might be covertly aligned with the police, but the truth will only unfold upon release.
