Sony Lifts Region Locks on Key Steam Titles

Sony has lifted regional restrictions on several major games, making them available for a wider audience on Steam.

Sony has removed regional restrictions on its major titles including God of War Ragnarok, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, Spider-Man 2, and Helldivers 2, allowing players in several countries to purchase these games.

This update was observed and reported by Wario64 on Bluesky, who noted that the restrictions were lifted on the SteamDB pages.

Previously, Sony was hesitant about releasing PlayStation games on PC and faced backlash over policy decisions like a PSN sign-in requirement for Helldivers 2. After facing criticism and realizing the potential profit from PC releases, Sony seems to be adjusting its approach.

Notably, this decision aligns with comments made by Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, who stated that Sony is carefully strategizing how to bring its franchises to different platforms without compromising player experiences.

This shift is a promising development, suggesting a more flexible and user-friendly policy from Sony regarding PC game accessibility moving forward.
