Intel's Legendary Big Battlemage GPU Emerges in MESA Linux Driver, Hinting at Year-End Launch

The Big Battlemage GPU from Intel surfaces in MESA drivers, increasing the likelihood of its launch by year's end with powerful specs potentially rivaling Nvidia's offerings.

Intel has long been rumored to have plans for a powerful new version of its Battlemage GPU, notably the G31 variant, which has now appeared in the MESA Linux drivers. This leads to a growing anticipation of its launch by the end of this year.

Expectations and Performance

The G31 is expected to compete at a level that could match Nvidia’s RTX 4070 or 5070, featuring 32 EUs compared to the 20 found in the current low-end offerings like the Arc B570 and B580. Intel’s upcoming GPU could shift the market by providing powerful options at accessible prices.

As the GPU market evolves, speculation abounds regarding whether Intel might market the G31 as a gaming or professional AI solution, potentially positioning it against Nvidia’s RTX Pro workstation cards.

“Intel is still working on a Big Battlemage chip, which is exciting considering the current demand for competitive gaming graphics solutions.”
