Some RX 9070 XTs Reported to be Slower Due to Samsung Memory Chips

New findings reveal that certain RX 9070 XT graphics cards using Samsung GDDR6 memory chips have a slight performance disadvantage compared to their SK Hynix counterparts.

A recent report from Bilibili’s hardware channel 51972 presents benchmarking tests on various models of the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT. The findings indicate that versions equipped with Samsung GDDR6 memory chips may exhibit a minor performance decline compared to those utilizing SK Hynix chips. Specifically, the Samsung-equipped RX 9070 XTs were found to be approximately 2.6% slower on average, which, while minor, is disheartening for users expecting competitive performance.

Performance Comparison

It was noted that the Samsung GDDR6 chips have ’looser timings,’ leading to these reduced metrics, according to AMD’s confirmation via the channel.

“According to 51972, AMD confirms that Samsung GDDR6 used on the RX 9070 XT has looser timings resulting in slightly worse performance.”

Despite the slight lag, reactions suggest that it shouldn’t overly concern gamers, as the difference is relatively small. Observations in real-world gameplay are still anticipated to showcase decent performance.

As AMD shifts to Samsung GDDR6 memory in the RX 9070 XT, the implications for thermal performance have been reported to be improved, but individual benchmarks will ultimately confirm its real-world impact.

In summary, while this update reveals a possible downgrade in the RX 9070 XT variants using Samsung memory, the overall impact on gaming experiences could be minimal.
