PlayStation Adjusts Steam Restrictions for Popular Games

PlayStation has lifted restrictions on several titles, allowing users in multiple countries to purchase and play its games on Steam without any barriers.

Steam users in various countries can now purchase and play popular PlayStation titles without limitations. Following months of criticism, the titles Helldivers 2, God of War Ragnarok, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are again available on Steam.

This update comes over a year after Helldivers 2 was removed from Steam in 177 countries following its global launch due to a requirement for players to link their PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts, which was not feasible in several regions. The backlash from fans, who heavily criticized and review-bombed several PlayStation games, led to a reversal of this requirement by PlayStation and Arrowhead Game Studios.

Sony has also made the PSN account optional for multiplayer services in The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered after listening to fan feedback.

Sony Lifts Regional Restrictions

Fans can reacquire access to these four titles starting at 1:54 PM Eastern on June 13. Users in countries like Venezuela and Serbia, which previously lost access, can now purchase these games with no issues. However, PSN is still unavailable in some areas, and linking PSN with Steam offers perks for supported titles. Yet, not all games are affected, as Ghost of Tsushima still mandates PSN for online features.

In the wake of these adjustments, there has been a resurgence of interest, particularly with the recent success of Stellar Blade, which attracted over 100,000 players during its first day. The abandonment of strict PSN account requirements has been met with approval from the gaming community.
