Last week, Marvel Snap experienced downtime due to the recent ban of TikTok in the United States. The popular collectible card game was affected primarily because of its publisher, Nuverse, which is a subsidiary of TikTok’s parent company, Bytedance. In response, developer Second Dinner indicated it would seek to change its publishing arrangement, and that transition appears to be underway.
In a recent post on X, Second Dinner confirmed that they will take on most operational and publishing tasks internally, with assistance from Skystone Games, a relatively small US-based publisher founded in 2020 by former Blizzard veteran David Brevik.
“To ensure this never happens again, and with the help of our current publisher Nuverse (Thank you!), we’ve already signed agreements and started the work to bring almost all operational and publishing responsibilities in-house at Second Dinner with support from a new U.S.-based publisher, Skystone Games,” stated Second Dinner. “This has been a full-team effort between Second Dinner, Nuverse, Skystone and Marvel. Thank you again for all of your support—we’re excited about what’s ahead for Marvel Snap!”
Following TikTok’s brief suspension in the US, which lasted around 12 hours, Marvel Snap remained offline on PC for an additional 24 hours, while the mobile version was unavailable for a full week, only returning on January 27. This extended downtime sparked demands from players for compensatory rewards, which include XP bonuses and Spotlight Keys. Further details on the rewards can be found here.
While Skystone Games has a smaller portfolio of titles such as Tyrant’s Realm and It Lurks Below, Marvel Snap commands a substantially larger audience compared to their other offerings.
