Microsoft Unveils Enhanced Start Menu for Windows 11

Microsoft's new Start menu aims to streamline access to apps and files with a more user-friendly design.

Microsoft has introduced a revamped Start menu in the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26200.5641. This design focuses on improving accessibility to frequently used apps and files, simplifying user interactions.

New Features:

  • The updated Start menu now includes options for viewing installed apps in either a category list or a grid format, enhancing the organization of apps.
  • Pinned apps are displayed at the top, followed by recommended files and categorized apps.

According to a statement from Microsoft, “We’re improving your app launching experience with a scrollable Start menu.”

The menu adapts automatically to different screen sizes, ensuring that users have a consistent and efficient layout whether using a laptop or desktop. On larger screens, users can expect to see up to 8 columns of pinned apps and 4 columns of categories, while smaller devices will show fewer columns.

The Phone Link integration feature now allows users to expand or collapse content from both iOS and Android devices directly from the Start menu.

This update is part of a broader effort to enhance the Windows 11 experience, which is expected to roll out soon but does not yet have a specified release date.
