Firaxis Games has shared details about the upcoming content update for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII. Featured prominently in this update are new map types and various enhancements that are a direct response to community feedback.
The game, which launched in February 2025—nine years after its predecessor—divides gameplay into three distinct ages: Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern. Players step into the shoes of historical figures, guiding their civilizations through the ages by establishing cities, making groundbreaking discoveries, and either conquering or working alongside rivals.
Among the notable additions in Update 1.2.2, which will be available on June 17, are massive maps accommodating ten civilizations in single-player mode. Multiplayer games will support up to eight civilizations.
Additionally, players will gain access to advanced options to customize their gaming experience, including the ability to select specific crises and adjust the AI difficulty settings.
New Features in Update 1.2.2
- Large and Huge Maps: Support for 10 civilizations in single-player.
- Advanced Game Options: Including Turn Legacy Paths, Crisis Picker, and Custom AI Difficulty.
- Steam Workshop Support: Allowing players to create and share mods.
- New Town Specializations and Adjustments: Introducing the Resort Town.
- New Bonuses and Beliefs: Featuring 24 new City-State bonuses, 2 new Pantheons, and 14 new Religious Beliefs.
- Quality-of-Life Improvements: Including bug fixes and UI enhancements.
Firaxis has also promised more features scheduled to be released later this year, including an Auto-Explore function and Hotseat Multiplayer, both of which are eagerly anticipated by fans.
