In their latest announcement regarding The Outer Worlds 2, the game director Brandon Adler has stated that the writing will adopt a darker, less humorous tone than the first installment.
In an interview during the 2025 SGF, Adler emphasized the intention to delve deeper into more serious themes, stating, “I want to give players something new so they don’t feel like they’re just running through the same types of jokes.”
Adler explained that the factions within the game will provide a sharper edge to the tone, especially the authoritarian Protectorate faction. He hopes the new interactions will feel more cutthroat, addressing timely issues about freedom and security.
Although the humor will still be present, Adler assured fans that there would be a balance between the absurdity and somber themes, aiming to bring a fresh experience when the game launches on October 29, 2025.
