Release of Mewgenics Pushed to 2026 After 13 Years in Development

The 'endless cat breeding RPG' Mewgenics is now set for release in early 2026, following a delay to ensure a polished launch.

The anticipated game, Mewgenics, which has been in development for 13 years, has had its release pushed back to February 10, 2026. Instead of the originally planned launch in 2025, developer Edmund McMillen cited the need for a more polished product as the reason for the delay.

“Dude, listen. Launching in Nov–Dec is hard. We want this game to get the attention it deserves and don’t want to compete with holidays and holiday AAA releases. And honestly, adding a few more months to dev means launching with an even more heavily tested and polished experience!”

McMillen elaborated on the remaining tasks.

  • The final boss is drawn and half animated.
  • New gameplay elements such as hard path rewards are being added.
  • More cutscenes are in the works.
  • Additional soundtrack tracks are being included.

With ample time for completion, McMillen expressed excitement about showcasing the game with potential live streams beginning in January.
