After a challenging 2024 that saw Fallout: Nuevo Mexico briefly put on hold and then resume, this highly anticipated mod for Fallout: New Vegas has officially been cancelled. Developers declared that continuing work on the project is not sustainable.
A message posted by Zapshock, the project lead, on the Fallout: Nuevo Mexico Discord stated:
“This project has been my passion, my obsession, and a huge part of my life for years. I’ve poured thousands of hours into it, late nights, early mornings, and everything in between. I’ve met amazing people along the way, some who’ve become long-term friends and helped me grow.
But as much as I love this project, I need to prioritize my mental health and face reality. The team is small (less than four), and the workload enormous. Continuing forward simply isn’t sustainable for me and everyone involved, including voice actors.”

Fallout: Nuevo Mexico, originally announced in 2021, attracted attention with its unique vision to transform the Fallout experience set in New Mexico. However, development struggles led to substantial setbacks, including a scrubbed YouTube channel and wiped Discord channels. Despite a reveal trailer in October 2024, it was not enough to overcome the increasing demands of the project.
The mod had managed to capture the interest of the community and critical attention, yet ultimately, personal health and team sustainability were prioritized above continuing development.
While Fallout: Nuevo Mexico has reached its final chapter, other projects in the Fallout universe, such as Fallout: London, continue to move forward.
